- Stops in the land of the Golden Bear included San Francisco, Muir Woods, Big Sur, the old Catholic home of Junipero Serra in Carmel, Napa Valley, Stanford University, Berkeley, and Monterey. And we did it all in less than a week.

- From the Commonweath to the comforts of Ferrum, then to Alexandria to visit with the Hadleys and, finally, back to Charlottesville for a visit with the Norfords and a trip to the Lawn.

(3) Hunting Island, South Carolina

- We went almost a month between houses this summer and here's what we have to show for it: trips to Ferrum and Kingsland followed by a relaxing trip to Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina.

(4) Wedded Bliss

- We started in Williamsburg, where Sally and I celebrated five years of wedded bliss with cheap wine and nachos. Later, we entertained cousins Gabi and Lindsay at home in Georgia (including a visit to see the Braves), and wrapped up the month with a day trip to Charlotte to attend Sally's cousin Kelli's wedding reception.

(5) Belle Isle, Virginia

- As the best man, Hadley, put it: it's hard to imagine two people who go together quite as well as Lew and Holly. They married on September 25 at Belle Isle on Virginia's Northern Neck. We saw the whole thing.

(6) The End of '04

- From the beginning of autumn to Halloween, including trips to Virginia, visits from cousins who live in faraway places, and an end-of-the-year visit to the Kingsland Ranch, where everyone else took all the pictures.
